Why a commercial space should consider RAPIX
Most lighting control gets specified once and then quietly becomes somebody else's problem. The commissioning agent leaves, the software licence lapses, and the next tenancy change means an electrician on a ladder. RAPIX was designed by people who had spent years on the other side of that. Here is what it means for a commercial building.
Lights that turn themselves off
Occupancy sensing and daylight harvesting are built into the sensor rather than bolted on afterwards. Workstations along the glass dim as daylight comes in, and meeting rooms go dark once the last person leaves. That is where the energy saving in a commercial building actually lives.
Zones, not addresses
Lighting is grouped by the space it lights, whether that is a boardroom, a corridor or a whole floor, and everything is controlled at that level. Nobody has to care which luminaire is DALI address 37, which is exactly why changes stay cheap.
Fit-out churn without a rewire
When the floor plan changes, the zones, scenes and schedules change in software. Reconfiguring a tenancy is usually a laptop job rather than a ceiling job, which is a real cost difference over a ten-year lease.
Emergency testing that reports itself
Cable your DALI-2 exit and emergency fittings on the same lines as the general lighting, and RAPIX Facilities schedules the tests, logs the results and produces the test and repair reports. No technician walking the building with a clipboard after hours.
No cloud, no subscription, no outage
RAPIX runs entirely on site. Communication between controllers is AES-128 encrypted and authenticated out of the box, and the system needs no internet connection at any point. Your lighting does not stop working because a vendor server did.
No single point of failure
There is no head-end controller. Switches, sensors and Zone Controllers each hold the project and keep operating if the network is cut, then re-synchronise automatically once it is restored.
You are not locked to one vendor
RAPIX is DALI-2 certified to IEC 62386, so it drives compliant luminaires, drivers and emergency gear from any manufacturer. Your lighting specification stays open and your replacement parts stay competitive.
It talks to the rest of the building
Native BACnet, Modbus and MQTT, a JSON API over TCP/IP, and DMX over Art-Net and sACN for feature lighting. Lighting can follow the building management system, after-hours access control, or the AV in a boardroom.
Programmed before we are on site
The project is built offline in RAPIX Integrator and loaded on arrival, so commissioning time in a live or partially occupied building stays short. The same project file is what keeps the system maintainable years later.
The biggest single RAPIX installation has 90 Zone Controllers, 350 DALI lines and around 12,000 devices installed. It works as a single system.Ozuno, the Australian manufacturer of RAPIX
Where it earns its keep
A zone is simply a space you can draw on a floor plan. That is the whole mental model, and it holds from a single room up to a campus without changing.
Open-plan floors
Broken into zones that follow the actual layout, with daylight-linked dimming on the window side and occupancy hold-off on the quiet end.
Meeting and board rooms
Presentation, meeting and normal scenes on a wall switch or a touchscreen, with the screen wall controlled separately from general room lighting.
Corridors, lobbies and amenities
Rules that keep circulation lit while any adjoining space is occupied, then drop to a low level rather than switching off entirely.
Perimeter and daylight zones
Constant light level maintenance holds a target lux at the working plane, trimming artificial light as daylight rises instead of running flat out all day.
After-hours and cleaning modes
Operating properties change how a whole floor behaves by time of day, covering work hours, after hours and cleaning, without reprogramming a single switch.
Reception and client-facing areas
Scheduled scenes tied to sunrise and sunset, so the front of house looks the same at 8am in June as it does in December.

It scales from one room to a whole building
The same design approach covers a single meeting room refit and a multi-floor tenancy, so you are not committing to a platform you will outgrow.
One room
A single RAPIX occupancy and light-level sensor is a complete control system on its own, covering movement detection, lux sensing and a voltage-free switch input, using free commissioning software.
One tenancy or floor
A Zone Controller links four electrically isolated DALI lines and up to 256 devices, so a sensor on one line can drive lighting on another with no routing rules to write.
A whole building
Zone Controllers daisy-chain over Ethernet using their built-in switches and share the full project between them. Zones span controllers, and there is no head end to fail.
What actually goes in
Australian-designed DALI-2 devices. The switches fit most standard Australian and New Zealand wall plates, so the system does not force a change of finish across the building.

Behind the scenes the range also covers 16A remote relays, one and two channel DIN relays, and a 400W trailing edge phase dimmer for driving non-DALI luminaires. That gear lives in the switchboard and ceiling space, and is specified as part of the design rather than something you need to choose.
Software your facilities team can actually use
The reason lighting control gets abandoned is usually the software. RAPIX splits it into tools for us and tools for you.
- RAPIX Addressing and RAPIX Integrator are the commissioning tools, and both are free. There is no licence to renew before anyone can touch the system.
- Offline project preparation means the design is built and tested before we arrive, then loaded on site.
- Fully decoded DALI logging on any line in the installation, timestamped and filterable, so intermittent faults get traced rather than guessed at.
- RAPIX Facilities gives your facilities manager floor plans, live device status, editable schedules and scenes, and the emergency test and repair reports.
- Re-commissioning a failed driver is a routine task, not a call-out for a specialist commissioning engineer.
Our commitment on a RAPIX project
Integreat Electronics holds RAPIX Advanced course certification, covering DALI theory through to RAPIX commissioning, emergency device testing, fault diagnosis, system security and API integration. Certification is the entry ticket. What we hold ourselves to is the standard of the work and the quality of what we leave behind.
- We commission what we install. Addressing, zoning, scenes and schedules are done by the same team that designed the job, not handed to a third-party commissioning agent who leaves at practical completion.
- We work to a documented design, not from memory. Zones are drawn on your floor plan and agreed before a single device is addressed, so what gets built is what was specified.
- Every project is handed over with its files. You receive the RAPIX project file, the floor plans, the device schedule and the documented zones and scenes. Nothing about your system lives only on our laptop.
- Labelling and as-builts are part of the job. Devices, DALI lines and controllers are labelled to match the documentation, so the next person on site can follow it without a discovery exercise.
- We diagnose rather than guess. Advanced training covers DALI logging and fault-finding, so an intermittent fault is traced in the bus traffic instead of resolved by swapping parts until it stops.
- We stay available after handover. Tenancy changes, scene adjustments and emergency reporting are ongoing work we expect to do, not an inconvenience once the invoice is paid.
Common questions
Does RAPIX only work with RAPIX light fittings?
No. RAPIX is DALI-2 certified to IEC 62386, so it controls compliant luminaires, LED drivers and emergency gear from any manufacturer. That is the point of the standard: you keep your lighting specification open and your replacement parts competitive.
Do we need an internet connection or a subscription?
No. RAPIX operates entirely on site with no cloud services required at any point, and the commissioning software is free. Communication between Zone Controllers is AES-128 encrypted and authenticated out of the box.
Can it be retrofitted into an existing building?
Often, yes. Where DALI drivers and control wiring already exist, we can usually reuse them. Where they do not, DALI-2 relays and phase dimmers let us control existing circuits and non-DALI luminaires from the same system. A site assessment is the honest way to answer it for your building.
What happens with our emergency and exit lighting?
DALI-2 exit and emergency fittings can be cabled on the same lines as the general lighting. RAPIX Facilities then schedules the testing, records the results and produces the test and repair reports, which is a considerable saving over manual testing in a multi-floor building.
How small can a project be?
One room. A single occupancy and light-level sensor works out of the box with no commissioning at all, and can be expanded later without being replaced.
Can it talk to our BMS, access control or AV?
Yes, natively via BACnet, Modbus, MQTT or the JSON API over TCP/IP, plus DMX over Art-Net and sACN for feature lighting. Integration is part of the advanced certification we hold.
Planning a fit-out or a lighting upgrade?
Tell us a little about the space and we will come back to you with a view on whether RAPIX is the right fit, and what it would take. We work by appointment and are happy to meet on site.

What we pair RAPIX with
RAPIX is a lighting control system, and a very good one. It is not an AV system. On venues and mixed-use buildings that also need audio and screens, we run Control4 over the top and let each platform do the part it is actually good at.
